Axle

Component of circular section on which the wheel is free to revolve.

Bore diameter

Nominal diameter of the hole through the hub, or nominal inner diameter of the bearing(s) to receive the axle.

Drive-steer wheel

Load wheel, connected to the power systems and to a steering device, which performs the duties simultaneously.

Mounting plane

Surface of the castor or housing to be connected to equipment.

Antistatic castor or wheel

Castor or wheel with resistivity higher than or equal 10high5 Ω but lower than or equal to 10high7 Ω capable of dissipating electrostatic charges.

Drive wheel

Load wheel connected, directly or through a clutch, to the power system which transmits the torque necessary for the movement of the vehicle.

Offset

Distance measured horizontally between the vertical swivel axlis of the castor and the axis of the wheel(s).

Overall height

Distance measured vertically between the ground and the mountain plane of a castor.

Fixing

Topic of all kinds of fixing stems, no matter whether they are for putting-in, screwing in or screwing on, riveting, pushing in or similar to any furniture or body, either directly or with the help of sockets.

Fixing bolt diameter

Diameter of the fixing bolts used to connect the castor to the equipment through the round or slotted holes in the top plate.

Device to be used to slow down or stop wheel(s) in motion. This device can also be used as a parking brake.

Office chair castor

Old term which should not be used anymore.
New term: Swivel chair castor, as swivel chairs are not used in offices only and their fixings need to have at least 10mm in diameter according to the DIN EN 12529 or BSI EN 12529 standard.

Chrome

Or chrome plated: A finish made by galvanizing of metal castor bodies to get chrome plated furniture or swivel chair castors.

Twin wheel stub axle mounting

Assembly to support the axle only between the wheels.

Twin wheel castor

Assembly swivel or fixed, including two wheels, which are free to revolve independently.

Swivel chair castor

The inner usable depth of the castor recess for the adaption of the fixing stem between castor and furniture or body.

Hard wheel

Wheel made out of a material, suitable for carpet.

Socket

Adaptor between the fixing stem and furniture to be pressed in, screwed in, glued in, or pushed in, in wood, wood-similar materials as well as round or squared tubes.

Intervallbremse

Auch lastabhängige Bremse. Einrichtung an einer Rolle für Drehstühle entsprechend der Norm DIN EN 12529 zur Bremsung, nicht aber Feststellung der Räder einer Rolle.
Benötigt an allen gewerblich genutzten Drehstühlen im deutschsprachigen Raum.

Inclined axle castor

Assembly on an swivel housing which rotates freely around its vertical axis. The axis of the wheel is offset to the swivelaxis, which is inclined to the ground.

L-Bracket

Fixing stem with a specially bended plate like a bracket, galvanized or powder coated to be used for side fixings for the castor. Typically used for wood or wood-similar materials.

Bearing

Device(s) intended to ease the rotation of a wheel around its axle; for example, sleef and self lubricated plain bearings, ball bearings, roller bearings, tapered roller bearings etc.

Built-in braking mechanism
